Black had the largest percent of student body in Jefferson Davis County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 86% of the 1,279 students enrolled in Jefferson Davis County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 0.3% increase over the previous school year.

J.E. Johnson Elementary School had the highest enrollment in the district with 491 students.

A snapshot of Jefferson Davis County School District schools showed 86% of students were Black and 6.9% white.

Jefferson Davis County School District roughly covers three schools within Jefferson Davis County and has a main office in Bassfield.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
