Black had the largest percent of student body in Covington County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 47.3% of the 2,605 students enrolled in Covington County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 6.3% decrease from the previous school year.

Seminary Middle School had the highest enrollment in the district with 420 students.

A snapshot of Covington County School District schools showed 47.3% of students were Black, 43% were white, 3.9% were Hispanic, and 1.4% multiracial.

Covington County School District roughly covers eight schools within Covington County and has a main office in Collins.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
